Enduring Idea and Rationale
Enduring Idea -
To move forward in every aspect of humankind people must have critical thinking skills to analyze the world and view each issue, subject, and idea with forward thinking, inventive ideas, creativity, and application. Our world no longer may rely on our history and current knowledge to educate the students. The world relies on people's ability to creatively and intellectually explore a subject using critical thinking to move past what is already a 'known' idea.

Rationale - Art Education has the potential to combine critical thinking exercises with art lessons thereby utilizing art as a conduit to introduce, increase, and/or solidify the necessary skills of critical thinking in high school. The concept of using interdisciplinary and cross-curricular studies is not new to Art Education; however a more precise goal of increasing critical thinking skills necessary for college and the work force are a distinctive goal, which will guide students to make correlations, formulate opinions, infer information, and make more informed judgments. The next generation of students need additional skills for them to not only be successful, but to also be inventive, creative, and original thinkers. Art Education is able to bridge the gap between content knowledge, critical thinking, creativity, and application.
